UNEXPLODED BOMB DISCOVERED IN WOODLAND
AN unexploded bomb has been discovered in woodland.
The mortar bomb was found by a paintballer in a woodland area behind the Hop Garden, Mount Murray, on Saturday.
The area has been cordoned off and is being overseen by Civil Defence and the police.
Officers from the Army Bomb Squad have been informed and are due to arrive in the Island tomorrow (Tuesday).
They will assess the bomb, thought to date from World War Two, before taking the necessary action.
Members of the public have been asked to avoid the area.
Ian Kettles, who discovered the bomb, explained: 'I work for Bushy's and help out at the paintball site. I was playing paintball on Saturday and walked across the field and found like a tail fin. It looked out of place.
'I gave it a couple of taps with my foot, pulled it out with my hands, realised what it was and put it back down.'
Once it had been identified the emergency services were alerted.
'I thought "oh my God, what have I got here. It could have blown my head off and killed me,' Ian, 26, of Douglas, said.
He has been paintballing for six years, but has never come across anything unusual or dangerous before.
'It's a one off thing. It's not every day you find bombs. I just stumbled across it,' Ian added.
